Wholecut Oxford

The Wholecut Oxford is an elegant and refined dress shoe.  It has smooth lines with minimal seams as it is made from a single piece of leather. Of all oxford shoes, wholecuts have a special minimalist quality. They are perfect for most formal occasions, whether at work or special days such as weddings, anniversaries, black tie events etc. Our Benson wholecut is hand crafted in Italy, made with quality calf leather and hand painted and waxed to create deep, vibrant colours. This video shows the current range. What's your favourite colour?

Filter By Clear All

Thomas Bird wholecut shoes are hand crafted in Italy using high quality, full grain calf leather. They are coloured by hand and burnished by Italian craftsmen to produce a rich colour and patina. We offer a wide range of colours and patinas depending on the outfit and the occasion. Black is often the first choice wholecut, but increasingly people are looking at and choosing other colours for a pop of colour, including oxblood, chestnut tan/brown, plum, aubergine, olive green and blue.  We also offer options with a brogue/medallion punched toe and custom patinas.

Wholecuts look simple and elegant, but actually demand a high level of skill to produce. The leather needs to be high quality, blemish free and supple. The craftsman needs to skilfully work the single piece of leather to form the shape of the shoe, rather than as normally, rely on small pieces of leather stitched together to form the shape. Although formal, wholecuts can be quite versatile. Some people dress them down with casual trousers and even jeans. You can read more on our blog about styling wholecut shoes.
